Aster provides complete independent and reliable solutions to wireless telecom companies. ATSPL has developed a range of PCMs that help provide cost-effective, energy-efficient, integrated, passive infrastructure solutions, to telecom companies for thermal backup during power offs or power failure upto a certain extent of time.
Aster Teleservices provide end-to-end solutions for telecom companies including PCM 29 which can maintain temperature within 32 °C. R&D team has started working on PCMs for thermal backup for Telecom Shelters and Cold Chain Solutions solutions.
Aster has offices in major cities of the country and also abroad, which enables it to serve in an efficient manner.
Cold chain solutions
Transportation of fresh vegetables, fruits, vaccines, blood, flowers, etc. is gaining more attention due to awareness regarding the hygiene and quality. Till today all cold storages are dependent on DG set power to maintain temperatures during power offs and failures. Aster has developed PCM which can maintain temperatures around 0 °C for up to 16 HRS depending on the conditions and requirement. This not only saves energy but also the environment from the harmful gases generated by DG sets.
India loses about 30-40% of the harvested fruits and vegetables during handling, storage, transportation, etc, a loss estimated INR 3,100 Millions per annum. There is a colossal wastage of perishable agricultural produce from the time they leave the fields to the time they reach the end customers, our country in this way wastes fruits and vegetables equivalent to the annual consumption of UK. For the proper post harvest of theses fruits and vegetables a complete, independent and fool proof solution is required. Aster with its thermal backup for the cold chain storage provides a varied range of PCMs for the backup during the transportation and storage. Aster Cold Chain Solutions solution ensures the independent and reliable solution for storage and transportation of fresh produce.
Aster’s PCM backup for Cold Chain Solutions solution has developed its infrastructure well enough to compete for every challenge in the Cold Chain Solutions technology.
Cold Chain Solutions solution
Aster Cold Chain Solutions solution provides an answer to storage of food, vegetables, vaccines, blood, flowers, etc. A conventional cold room/store maintains temperature using a powerful AC maintaining temperature upto -20 °C. The cold storages require DG set during power failure and remote places. Aster has developed PCM for cold storage which can maintain temperature ranging from 8-15 HRS depending on the conditions of storage and environment. This PCM back up helps in saving costly energy and saving of diesel during power failures. This technology also reduces noise and environmental pollution. |

The total production of fruits and vegetables in the world is around 370 MT/Annum. India ranks first in the world with an annual output of 32 MT. India with its current production of 32 MT/Annum of fruit, accounts for about 8% of the world’s fruit production. The diverse agro-climatic zones in the country make it possible to grow almost all varieties of fresh fruits and vegetables. The fruit processing sector has grown about 20% per annum. However, the growth rates have been extensively higher for frozen fruits and vegetables (121%) and dehydrated fruits and vegetables (24%). But India loses about 35-40% of the produce due to improper post harvest management; a loss estimated at INR 4,000 Millions per Annum equivalent to annual consumption of UK. |

Aster’s Cold Chain Solutions solution addresses the solution to storage and transport of fruits, vegetable and flowers, etc. from farm to the destination. Use of PCM in cold chain not only reduces the expenses on maintaining freshness of agriculture produce but also protects the environment from smoke and noise pollution generated by the DG set. |

Aster’s Cold Chain Solutions solution proves cost effective, efficient and reliable to any other cold storage method. It reduces wastage and consequently, increases yields and revenue. On social front, this solution ensures the well being of the consumer and a greater income for the farmer. |

Thermal Management System (TMS)
TMS for reliable thermal back-up in cold storages and Cold Chain Solutions systems provides the most appropriate alternative to DG power, it is an innovative concept given by Aster Teleservices Pvt. Ltd. The TMS charges when grid electricity is available and the stored energy can be used to maintain temperature during power failures, means that no DG set operate to maintain temperatures in cold storages.
TMS is proven technology in wide-ranging applications including preservation of temperature-sensitive goods during storage, transportation, distribution and retailing. TMS is extremely effective in cold storages, predominantly in areas where grid power is absent for 8 to 16 HRS. Besides cold storage rooms, TMS drastically reduces Cold Chain Solutions transportation cost.
The PCM in TMS when charged can maintain temperature upto 10-24 HRS depending on the backup required, the TM S can maintain temperature ranging between -10 to +30 °C.
Advantages of TMS
- No mechanical part required
- Thermal reliability during operation
- Reduces operating cost in cold storages and reefer trucks

Thermal backup using PCM in telecom shelter
The heat generated by the electronics and the transfer of heat from outside is normalized by AC in conventional shelters. During grid failure or power cuts PCM 29 maintains temperature for 8-10 HRS inside the shelter. This maintains the temperature at 26-35 °C which in turns reduces dependency on DG sets, reducing the investment and saving environment.
PCM gets charged while the normal operation of air conditioner; when power fails the thermal energy stored in the PCM maintain |

the temperature inside the shelter between 29 - 32 °C. The temperature inside the shelter is maintained within the limit upto 8-10 HRS depending on the environmental conditions and heat load inside.
Aster PCM is reliable and efficient in maintaining the temperature inside the shelter. It is food grade, non-toxic, non-explosive, and has large life. This PCM can be charged upto 9000 or more with almost no degradation in the performance. |

Merits of using PCM as thermal energy back up
Economic benefits: Aster’s PCM provides a good thermal backup for the equipments and electronics inside the shelter during power failure.
Reliability: It is highly reliable PCM with large thermal cycling and life span.
Environment friendly: It doesn’t produce smoke and noise unlike DG sets hence saves environment pollution.
Safe to handle: It is safe to use being non-toxic and non-flammable. It should not be consumed despite being food grade.

R&D- PCM
Phase Change Materials (PCM) are substances which store and release huge amount of energy, while solidifying and melting at certain temperatures. This stored heat can be utilized in thermal management of various systems like telecom enclosures, cold transport, hot boxes etc. Our R&D Team is developing new formulations for PCM for various temperature ranges. We have our own laboratory equipped with sophisticated synthesizing, testing and characterizing equipments.
